What do you see in the picture? Where do you think it was taken, what do you think is happening?

These photos were taken at Birmingham Pride on bank holiday weekend, 2025. Today Pride events are held in towns and cities all over the UK. There may be one in your town or a town near you.

What is Pride?
Who can celebrate Pride?
Why do so many towns and cities hold Prides?

Pride is about everyone knowing they belong and everyone feeling welcome in the place were they live. It's about different families. You can be who are are and you belong here. Your family can look different.
In our town there are lots of different families and Pride is about all families feeling welcome.

How are families different?

Families might have a mum and a dad, they might have just a mum or just a dad, they might have two mums or two dads. 

Is there a law in the UK protecting people in different families? (the equality act is about everyone being different and everyone being welcome)
Who else is protected in that law?
What do we say about families at our school?

Look again at the photos. Can you tell what family a person has just by looking at them?
What do you notice about the colours?
Why do you think Pride is making the people in these photos so happy?

Why is this about No Outsiders?
Which British Value is this about?

Elephant

What do you think this story is about? Tara is an elephant who lives at an elephant sanctuary in Tennessee, USA. Bella is a stray dog who also lives at the sanctuary. Usually the elephants and dogs in the sanctuary keep away from each other. But Bella and Tara are best friends and constant companions. There is a news clip here where you can follow the story. It describes how the sanctuary staff realised how special the bond was when Bella fell ill and Tara refused to move from the area where Bella was getting better for three weeks. Different dog

Muppet is a Chinese crested dog from Peterborough who won an award last month.  - What award do you think Muppet won? Muppet looks a bit different to other dogs - he has different teeth and his tongue is a different shape. Muppet was awarded "Britain's ugliest pooch" - Why do you think Muppet won? Muppet's owner is called Bev. She says Muppet is "beautiful inside and out" - why does Bev say that, what does she mean? - Do you agree?
