Alligator
An extremely rare white alligator was born at a wildlife park in Florida last year. The picture shows the baby alligator and her brother.
The female reptile, measuring just 49cm is one of only seven in the world. She is a Leucistic alligator. Leucistic alligators are the rarest of all alligators. The alligator has a brother born at the same time with skin the same colour as most other alligators.
The alligator has been described as beautiful. The park is asking people to suggest a name for the reptile. You can see footage of the beautiful alligator in the clip above.
- how is this alligator different to most other alligators?
- Why does this alligator look different to her brother? (she just does! Everyone is unique, we all have differences)
- Why is she being described as beautiful?
- Do you think mum is proud of her different baby, do you think mum loves her different, beautiful baby?
- Most of the names suggested for the alligator so far are all based on her colour. What do you think about that? Can the alligator be called a name that is not about her skin colour? How about calling her Anna?
- If someone said to mum, 'why does your baby look so different?" what do you think mum would say?
- do all babies have to look like their mum or dad?
- do all families have to look the same?
- How do you look different to members of your family?
- what can we learn about families from this story?
- why is this about No Oitsiders?
