different families

What do you see in the picture? Who are these people, what are they wearing on their arm? What famous tournament is happening this week?

This is Harry Kane and Gareth Bale. Harry Kane is the captain of the England football team and Gareth Bale is the captain of the Wales team. England and Wales are taking part in the World Cup, the football tournament starting this week. What is the World Cup?

Does anyone know where the World Cup is being held?

Why are Harry and Gareth wearing this arm band, what does it say? What does "One love" mean?

In different countries there are different laws. What does the law in the UK say about difference (reference the Equality Act 2010 - how are people "different" in the UK today?)

Harry and Gareth (and lots of other captains) have chosen to wear the One Love armband in the World Cup because they believe that everyone should be welcome.

In Qatar there are different laws about families. Some people believe that all families should be the same. Harry and Gareth believe that all families are different and that's ok. They are wearing an armband to show that all families are different and all families are welcome.

What do we say in our school about different families?

What different kinds of families are welcome in our school?

Ask children to talk about their families to show that all families are different and say that's brilliant.

Why is this about No Outsiders?

What can we do in our school to make sure that everyone feels welcome.
