Rather than lodge in dorms with other students, Beth lodges in a care home for elderly people as part of a partnership between the university and the home. As a musician, Beth needs to practice every day so she does, but with an audience. The residents love to hear her play, and this has brought them close together. Sometimes Beth brings other musicians from her course to the home and they perform together. Beth immerses herself in the lives of the residents, doing jigsaws with them or playing chair volleyball. She has also found a former teacher and they discuss education. Beth says, “Music is such a connecting force. It bridges the divisions that exist between people.
