Pride KS1

What do you see in the picture, what is happening, what is it about?

The pictures was taken at Birmingham Pride 2024 last weekend.

What is Pride about? (it's about celebrating different families)

What is a family, how can families be different? ( a mum and a dad, just a mum, just a dad, two mums , two dads etc)

Over 75,000 people came to the Pride parade in Birmingham.

Why did they come, what are they saying about families in 2024?

What kind family might the people in the photo be in? (We can't tell by looking at someone what their family is like and it doesn't really matter.)

What does 'love is love' mean?

What do you think is the most important thing about a family?

What is the UK law that protects people in different families? (Equality Act) What are the protected characteristics, who else is protected under that law? (children might know some of the following: religion or belief, race, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, disability, marriage and civil partnership, age, gender reassignment)

Why is this about No Outsiders?

Which British value is this about?

  1. I don't think this is a theme for primary school children, pride is not for children and it is ridiculous to expect them to know about the Equality Act and gender reassignment etc. I think these lessons are damaging and I would withdraw my child from any school that undertakes this type of teaching
