Axel Johnson is 4 years old and this photo shows him on the school bus on his first day at school.

When Axel had to get on the school bus, he was frightened to leave his mum for the first time. He wouldn't let go of her hand.

- why was he frightened?

Isabel Lane was the bus driver that day and she decided to help.

- What did Isabel do?

Isabel offered to hold Axel's hand for the journey.

- why did Isabel offer to do that?
- How do you think that helped Axel?

Isabel said, "I could see that he really didn't want to let his mum go. It was just a natural reaction to give him my hand in the hopes that it would calm some of those first day jitters."

Mum was relived to see Isabel take her son's hand and knew he would be ok.

What do you think this story is about? Tara is an elephant who lives at an elephant sanctuary in Tennessee, USA. Bella is a stray dog who also lives at the sanctuary. Usually the elephants and dogs in the sanctuary keep away from each other. But Bella and Tara are best friends and constant companions. There is a news clip here where you can follow the story. It describes how the sanctuary staff realised how special the bond was when Bella fell ill and Tara refused to move from the area where Bella was getting better for three weeks.
