What do you think this story is about? Tara is an elephant who lives at an elephant sanctuary in Tennessee, USA. Bella is a stray dog who also lives at the sanctuary. Usually the elephants and dogs in the sanctuary keep away from each other. But Bella and Tara are best friends and constant companions. There is a news clip here where you can follow the story. It describes how the sanctuary staff realised how special the bond was when Bella fell ill and Tara refused to move from the area where Bella was getting better for three weeks. The workers would carry Bella out to see Tara every day and you can see this in the footage. You can also see Tara tickling Bella's tummy using her giant foot. https://www.y...

https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/narwhal-adopted-by-pod-of-belugas-in-canada-could-produce-narluga/ What do you see in the picture? What are the animals, what do you notice about them? The photo below shows two different types of whale. On the left is a beluga whale and on the right is a narwhal which has a long tooth. Both whales live in the Arctic waters although Beluga whales live further south around the waters of North America.    Both whales usually travel in small groups, staying together and separate from other whale species. But scientists have spotted something unusual in the picture above- a young narwhal travelling with a pod of beluga whales (a group of whales is called a pod). The young narwhal is traveling, eating and living with the beluga whales. Drone footage is bring used to track the pod of whales and scientists note that the narwhal is well fed which means he must have been adopted in to the pod. Robert Michaud is a scientist and he says about the na...

Eric and Florence have become official staff members at Tewksbury Abbey in Gloucestershire. They are acting as therapy dogs for anyone who visits the abbey. Head Verger Chris Skepper says, "People absolutely love them. They have added to he positive atmosphere her at the Abbey and have had such a warm welcome." The aim is for the dogs to welcome people who might not be familiar with the church.  "If you are involved in the church, you forget how daunting it can be for non-church people to come in to the building. These are big dark doors and people are not always sure what is going to happen when they go in. But then they see the dogs and think 'Oh that's ordinary' they can relate and it breaks down barriers." Everyone is welcome to meet Eric and Flo at the Abbey. - what is ...

Flower bouquets left in Kirkby Stephen help beat loneliness - BBC News   What is happening in this picture, what do you think the story is? Bunches of flowers are being left on benches in Kirby Stephen in Cumbria over summer to cheer people up. The local WI (Women’s Institute) created about 30 bunches and left them on benches around the town. The bunches included flowers and herbs from the groups’ own gardens and also donations of flowers from a local business. There was also a handcrafted heart with each bunch so that people would have something to keep when the flowers died. One member of the public wh0 found a bunch said the flowers made her day as she was missing her mum. Ann Craddock, one of the organisers, said they people liked living in Kirby because it was a wonderful, supportive community. This photo below shows a bench in the town centre. -         What is a community? -         How ...

Did anyone say, "We have skin that is a different colour so we can't hold...
