hair

The photo shows three year old Locklan Samples. When Locklan was born he had jet-black hair but gradually it fell out and was replaced by a peach fuzz. Locklan's hair grows in a different way; it sticks straight up no matter how it is combed. It is also extremely fragile so if it is combed, it breaks off. Locklan is one of only 100 people known to have hair like this, which is called Uncombable Hair Syndrome.

At first, Locklan's mum was a bit worried about his hair being different, but when she posted photos online, someone got in contact to say she recognised the way his hair grew. That was when Mum found out about Uncombable Hair Syndrome.

Today Locklan is happy and loves the attention he gets from people. People often ask to touch his hair. Mum shares photos of Locklan and his changing hair with other parents on social media. Mum says, "It's cool to see how other kids' hair has changed over the years - for some people it does not go away and for others it becomes a little more manageable."
